Augmented reality platform to connect clinicians remotely in real-time
Proximie is a remote surgical collaboration platform that empowers clinicians to virtually and practically interact with each other. By remotely connecting surgeons in a live environment, Proximie can facilitate proactive peer-to-peer learning and promote the sharing of surgical expertise before, during and after surgery.
Founded by Dr. Hachach-Haram, Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Head of Clinical Innovation at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospital UK, Proximie empowers clinicians to virtually interact with each other. By remotely connecting surgeons in a live environment, Proximie can facilitate proactive peer-to-peer learning and promote the sharing of surgical expertise before, during and after surgery.
The platform is secure (HIPAA and GDPR compliant), lightweight and easy to deploy. A laptop, capture card and standard video camera are the only hardware required to obtain a video feed of the clinical environment. The live video feed can be accessed remotely by a clinician via the Proximie platform using a standard laptop and Chrome browser. The mentor can provide proctorship through verbal instructions and by using bespoke augmented reality tools. This allows Proximie to be deployed quickly, cost effectively and securely. This out-of-the box, low cost, plug-and-play solution is fully GDPR and HIPAA compliant and is already deployed in hospitals around the globe, completing more than 300 surgeries each month in 30 countries.
How does Proximie work?
Proximie enables surgeons to virtually transport themselves into any clinical setting simply by connecting to the platform via their phone, tablet or computer. Using augmented reality, surgeons can remotely interact in an operation from start to finish and mentor a local surgeon through a live procedure step-by- step. An internet-connected device allows them to view a live camera feed of the operation and not only provide verbal instructions, but also draw or overlay important patient scans or X-rays, and virtually reach into the surgical field to precisely indicate key structures or provide tactile guidance.
The system is not purely for use in surgery, however; it is also invaluable as a learning tool and can be utilised to increase the clinical effectiveness of surgeons through virtual training and mentoring sessions. From promoting the safe adoption of new techniques, procedures or medical devices, to transforming the way surgical knowledge is shared, documented and optimised, Proximie is building a digital, data-informed, surgical footprint to support surgeons now and in the future.
Proximie is committed to bringing together experts remotely to push the boundaries of time and distance for real and impactful scaling of surgical knowledge, enabling the provision of high-quality healthcare to all patients, no matter where they are in the world.
Welcome to Proximie, and the future of surgery. The technology platform that enables the sharing of peer-to-peer live surgery support, anywhere in the world, anytime.
